Heartburn, Acid Reflux & Digestive Discomfort
Heartburn and acid reflux are among the most common digestive complaints in the UK, affecting around 1 in 5 adults. They occur when stomach acid flows back up into the oesophagus, causing a burning sensation in the chest or throat. Triggers include spicy foods, alcohol, caffeine, eating late at night, and being overweight.
Omeprazole 20mg is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that reduces the amount of acid produced in the stomach. It is more effective than antacids for persistent heartburn and acid reflux symptoms. Buscopan (hyoscine butylbromide) provides relief from stomach cramps and spasms.

Omeprazole & Digestive Health Medicines
Omeprazole 20mg capsules are a pharmacy medicine that reduces stomach acid production. They are suitable for adults experiencing frequent heartburn (2 or more days per week) for short-term relief. Buscopan 10mg tablets provide relief from stomach cramps, spasms, and irritable bowel discomfort.
Omeprazole can interact with clopidogrel (a blood-thinning medicine). If you take clopidogrel, please disclose this in your consultation. Our pharmacist will advise on the safest option.
Why Do I Need a Pharmacist Consultation?
Omeprazole is a Pharmacy (P) medicine because it can mask symptoms of more serious underlying conditions such as stomach cancer or a peptic ulcer, which require medical investigation. Our consultation includes important safety screening questions including difficulty swallowing and unexplained weight loss β both of which require urgent GP review.
