What is Cialis Together?

Cialis Together is the over-the-counter version of Cialis. It became a Pharmacy (P) medicine in 2023, following Viagra Connect, so men can get licensed ED treatment from a pharmacist without seeing a doctor first. It contains the same active ingredient as prescription Cialis and generic tadalafil, at the standard 10mg strength.

What is Cialis Together used for?

Cialis Together treats erectile dysfunction, which is when you regularly cannot get or keep an erection firm enough for satisfactory sex. It is licensed for:

• adult men aged 18 and over
• who have erectile dysfunction

How does Cialis Together work?

Tadalafil belongs to a group of medicines called PDE5 inhibitors. When you are sexually aroused, it helps the blood vessels in the penis relax so more blood can flow in, which makes it easier to get and keep an erection. Without sexual stimulation, nothing happens.

How to take Cialis Together

• Take one tablet at least 30 minutes before sexual activity.
• Swallow it whole with a glass of water, with or without food.
• Do not take more than one tablet in 24 hours.
• Avoid drinking large amounts of alcohol, and avoid grapefruit juice.
• It is meant for use when needed, not as a continuous daily treatment.

How long does Cialis Together last?

A single tablet can help you get an erection for up to 36 hours after taking it. That is the main difference from sildenafil, which typically works for around 4 hours. If you have taken it as directed and it has not worked after a couple of attempts, speak to your pharmacist or doctor.

Cialis Together vs Viagra Connect

Both are pharmacy ED medicines. Viagra Connect contains sildenafil 50mg and works for about 4 hours, best taken about an hour before sex and ideally not after a heavy meal. Cialis Together works for up to 36 hours and is not affected by food. Neither is stronger in a simple sense, and some men prefer one over the other. Never take them together.

Side effects of Cialis Together

Most side effects are mild and short-lived. Common ones (up to 1 in 10 men) include:

• headache
• back pain, muscle aches and pain in the arms or legs
• flushing of the face
• blocked nose
• indigestion

Stop taking it and get medical help straight away if you have chest pain during or after sex (do not use nitrates for it), an erection that lasts more than 4 hours, a sudden decrease or loss of vision, sudden hearing loss, or signs of an allergic reaction such as swelling of the face, lips or throat.

Who should not take Cialis Together?

Do not take Cialis Together if you:

• take nitrates or nitric oxide donors (such as glyceryl trinitrate spray, isosorbide mononitrate or nicorandil) or use amyl nitrite (“poppers”)
• take riociguat
• have been told by a doctor to avoid sex because of a heart problem, or have had a heart attack in the last 90 days or a stroke in the last 6 months
• have unstable angina, severe heart failure, low blood pressure or uncontrolled high blood pressure
• have ever lost vision because of NAION (a problem with blood flow to the optic nerve)
• have a deformed penis, such as Peyronie’s disease
• are a woman or under 18

Speak to a doctor first if you have heart disease, serious liver or kidney problems, sickle cell anaemia, leukaemia or multiple myeloma. Tell the pharmacist about all your medicines, especially alpha blockers (such as tamsulosin or doxazosin), other blood pressure tablets, ketoconazole, itraconazole, ritonavir, rifampicin and clarithromycin. Erectile dysfunction can be an early sign of heart disease or diabetes, so the leaflet recommends a check-up with your doctor within 6 months of starting treatment.
