Eurax Cream is a versatile anti-itch cream that soothes itching from many causes – insect bites, stings, nettle rash, heat rash, sunburn, dry eczema, chickenpox and more. It contains crotamiton 10%, which calms the itch for hours after each application.

What is Eurax cream?

Eurax is a topical crotamiton 10% w/w cream used to relieve itching (pruritus). It is a general sale medicine, available without prescription from our GPhC-registered UK pharmacy, and is a handy all-rounder for the itchy skin problems that crop up at home.

Eurax for the itch after scabies

Itching commonly continues for one to two weeks after scabies has been successfully treated – this is the skin reacting, not usually live mites. Eurax soothes that lingering itch. The infestation itself needs a dedicated treatment, such as oral ivermectin or a permethrin cream, with the whole household treated at the same time.

How does Eurax work?

Crotamiton has a soothing, anti-itch action on the skin. Applied to the affected area it dampens the sensation of itching, breaking the itch-scratch cycle so the skin can settle.

Using Eurax on children

Eurax can be used on children’s itchy skin. In children under 3 years it should be used only under medical supervision and no more than once a day, so check with your pharmacist first for a young child.

Side effects and cautions

Eurax is usually well tolerated; occasionally it can cause a local skin reaction such as redness or irritation. Keep it away from the eyes, eyelids and mouth, and do not apply it to broken or weeping skin. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, use it only on advice.

It can soothe the itch of dry eczema and itchy dermatitis. It treats the itch rather than the underlying condition, so if eczema is widespread, weeping or not settling, see your pharmacist or doctor about a suitable emollient or steroid cream.
Can you use Eurax when pregnant or breastfeeding?
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, use Eurax only on the advice of your pharmacist or doctor. Avoid applying it to the breast area if you are breastfeeding.
