Side effects of fluconazole

Who should not take Fluconazole 150mg?

What should I do if thrush does not clear up after fluconazole?
If your symptoms have not improved within a week, or thrush keeps returning (more than twice in six months), do not simply repeat treatment – see your pharmacist or doctor, as another cause may need checking.
Is fluconazole an antibiotic?
No – fluconazole is an antifungal, not an antibiotic. Antibiotics treat bacterial infections, whereas fluconazole treats fungal infections such as vaginal thrush by stopping the yeast (Candida) from growing. Taking antibiotics can actually sometimes trigger thrush.
When should you take a second fluconazole 150mg capsule?
For ordinary vaginal thrush, a single 150mg capsule is usually enough. If your symptoms have not improved after about 7 days, or are more severe, a second 150mg capsule can be taken 3 days (72 hours) after the first. If thrush keeps coming back or does not clear, see your pharmacist or doctor rather than repeat-dosing.
How long does fluconazole stay in your system?
Fluconazole has a long half-life of around 30 hours, so a single 150mg capsule keeps working for several days after you take it – which is why one dose can clear thrush. It is gradually cleared from the body over the following week or so.
