Imodium Plus tackles diarrhoea and the bloating, cramps and wind that come with it. Each tablet pairs loperamide 2mg to stop the diarrhoea with simeticone 125mg to relieve trapped wind – two-in-one relief for an uncomfortable tummy.

What is Imodium Plus?

Imodium Plus is a pharmacy (P) medicine combining loperamide 2mg and simeticone 125mg, for acute diarrhoea associated with gas-related discomfort – bloating, cramping and flatulence – in adults and children over 12. It is supplied from our GPhC-registered UK pharmacy with a short suitability check.

How the two ingredients work

Loperamide slows the movement of the gut so diarrhoea settles and stools firm up. Simeticone is an anti-foaming agent that breaks up trapped gas in the gut, relieving the bloating, cramps and wind that often accompany a bout of diarrhoea.

How to take Imodium Plus

  • Adults: 2 tablets to start, then 1 after each loose stool.
  • Ages 12–18: 1 tablet to start, then 1 after each loose stool.
  • Maximum 4 tablets a day; do not use for more than 2 days without advice.

Drink plenty of fluids to replace what diarrhoea takes out. Stop and see a doctor if you have blood in the stool with a fever, severe tummy pain, symptoms lasting more than 48 hours, or signs of dehydration. Not for children under 12.

What is Imodium Plus used for?
Imodium Plus treats acute diarrhoea that comes with uncomfortable bloating, cramps and trapped wind, in adults and children over 12. Each tablet combines loperamide 2mg with simeticone 125mg.
How do you take Imodium Plus?
Adults: take 2 tablets initially, then 1 tablet after each loose stool. Those aged 12–18: 1 tablet initially, then 1 after each loose stool. Do not take more than 4 tablets in a day, and not for more than 2 days without advice.
How is Imodium Plus different from ordinary Imodium?
Ordinary Imodium and Imodium Instants contain just loperamide to stop diarrhoea. Imodium Plus adds simeticone, which relieves the trapped wind, bloating and cramps that often come with a bout of diarrhoea.
How do the two ingredients work?

How quickly does Imodium Plus work?

Can children take Imodium Plus?
It can be used from age 12, at a lower starting dose. It is not suitable for children under 12.
When should you NOT use Imodium Plus?
Do not use it if you have blood in your stools with a fever, severe tummy pain, or conditions such as ulcerative colitis. See a doctor instead for severe, bloody or persistent diarrhoea.
Should you drink extra fluids?
Yes – replace lost fluid and salts by drinking plenty of water and, if needed, rehydration sachets. This is especially important for older adults.
What are the side effects?
Possible effects include constipation, headache, wind or dizziness. Never take more than the stated dose – very large overdoses of loperamide can cause serious heart problems.
How long can you take Imodium Plus?
Use it for no more than 2 days without medical advice. If diarrhoea carries on beyond this, or keeps coming back, see your pharmacist or doctor.
How long does Imodium Plus last?
Each dose works for several hours; you take another tablet after each loose stool rather than on a set schedule, up to a maximum of 4 tablets a day. A single bout of diarrhoea with wind is usually settled within a day. If symptoms last more than 48 hours, stop and seek advice.
Is it safe to take Imodium Plus every day?
No – Imodium Plus is for short-term use, up to about 2 days for a bout of diarrhoea without medical advice. It is not designed for daily, long-term use. If you need diarrhoea relief regularly, or have a long-term bowel condition, see your doctor rather than taking it every day.
