Sudocrem Antiseptic Healing Cream is a clinically-proven zinc oxide cream used to soothe, protect and help heal sore, irritated and broken skin. Its distinctive white barrier cream combines zinc oxide (15.25%) with mild antiseptic and soothing ingredients, making it a versatile treatment for nappy rash, eczema, acne, minor burns, bedsores and minor surface wounds.

What is Sudocrem Antiseptic Healing Cream?

Sudocrem is a licensed medicine (not just a cosmetic moisturiser). Its active ingredients are zinc oxide 15.25% (a soothing, astringent skin protectant), benzyl alcohol 0.39% (a mild local anaesthetic and disinfectant), benzyl benzoate 1.01%, benzyl cinnamate 0.15% and hypoallergenic lanolin 4%. Together they form a water-repellent barrier that shields damaged skin while the mild antiseptic action helps keep the area clean.

What is Sudocrem used for?

Sudocrem Antiseptic Healing Cream is licensed to help treat:

  • Nappy rash and incontinence-associated dermatitis (in babies and adults)
  • Eczema
  • Acne and spots
  • Minor burns
  • Bedsores (pressure sores)
  • Minor surface wounds and skin irritation

It is not a treatment for vaginal or oral thrush, fungal infections or haemorrhoids — if you need one of those, ask your pharmacist for the right product.

How does Sudocrem work?

The zinc oxide forms a protective, water-repellent barrier over sore or broken skin, reducing further irritation and helping the skin’s natural repair. Benzyl alcohol provides a mild local anaesthetic and disinfectant effect to soothe discomfort, while the Peru balsam constituents (benzyl benzoate and benzyl cinnamate) add a gentle antibacterial action. On acne and spots, this combination helps calm redness and inflammation and keeps the area clean.

How to use Sudocrem

  • Clean and dry the affected area.
  • Using a clean fingertip, apply a thin layer with a gentle circular motion until the cream forms a thin, translucent film — you do not need a thick coating.
  • For nappy rash, apply at each nappy change; for spots, a thin dab overnight is often enough.
  • Wash your hands after use unless treating the hands. For external use only — avoid the eyes.

How long does Sudocrem take to work?

This varies with what you are treating. Spots and minor irritation often settle within a day or two, and nappy rash usually improves quickly with regular use. If your skin does not improve after 7 days, or gets worse, stop and speak to your pharmacist or doctor.

Side effects and who can use it

Sudocrem is generally very well tolerated and is suitable for babies, children and adults. As it contains lanolin and benzyl alcohol, a small number of people may get local skin irritation or an allergic reaction — stop using it if this happens. Do not use it if you are allergic to any of the ingredients.

Sudocrem FAQs

What is Sudocrem Antiseptic Healing Cream used for?
Sudocrem is licensed to help treat nappy rash and incontinence-associated dermatitis, eczema, acne and spots, minor burns, bedsores and minor surface wounds. It soothes and protects sore or broken skin while its mild antiseptic action helps keep the area clean.
Is Sudocrem good for acne and spots?
Yes — acne is one of Sudocrem’s licensed uses. The zinc oxide and mild antiseptic ingredients help calm redness, reduce inflammation and keep spots clean. Apply a thin dab to the spot with a clean fingertip, often overnight. It is not a substitute for a dedicated acne treatment if your acne is severe or widespread.
Is Sudocrem good for eczema?
Yes. Sudocrem is licensed to help treat eczema. It forms a protective barrier that soothes and shields irritated, itchy skin. For ongoing or severe eczema, ask your pharmacist about a suitable emollient or treatment as well.
Is Sudocrem an antiseptic? Is it antifungal?
Sudocrem has a mild antiseptic and antibacterial action, so it helps keep minor wounds and irritated skin clean. It is not a dedicated antifungal and is not licensed to treat thrush or fungal infections.
Can you use Sudocrem for thrush or in the intimate area?
Sudocrem is not licensed or designed to treat thrush or vaginal yeast infections, and it is not an antifungal. If you have thrush, ask your pharmacist for an appropriate antifungal treatment such as clotrimazole. Sudocrem should not be used inside the vagina.
Can you put Sudocrem on your face?
Yes, Sudocrem can be used on the face for spots and minor skin irritation. Apply a thin layer and keep it away from the eyes. Because it is a rich barrier cream, use only a small amount so it does not block pores.
Can Sudocrem help haemorrhoids (piles)?
Sudocrem is not licensed to treat haemorrhoids. While its barrier may feel soothing, it does not shrink piles or treat the underlying problem — ask your pharmacist for a licensed haemorrhoid treatment.
Is Sudocrem good for sunburn or minor burns?
Sudocrem is licensed to help soothe minor burns and can ease mild sunburn by cooling and protecting the skin. For severe, blistering or extensive sunburn, seek advice from a pharmacist or doctor.
Can babies use Sudocrem for nappy rash?
Yes. Nappy rash is one of Sudocrem’s main licensed uses and it is suitable for babies. Clean and dry the area, then apply a thin layer at each nappy change.
Can you use out-of-date Sudocrem?
No — do not use Sudocrem after the expiry date printed on the pack, or beyond the period-after-opening shown by the open-jar symbol. Store it below 25°C with the lid on.
